Wiki Project
Overview
A wiki is a website that is created, edited, and maintained by a community of users. For this project, you will work in groups to create a wiki from scratch about the principles we have discussed in this class. The purpose of the assignment is to get hands-on experience creating, writing, designing, and maintaining a wiki.
Specifics
There will be four parts to this project: blog posts, peer review/discussion, contributions, and a reflective essay.
- 3 blog entries: one written before the project begins, after the stub is posted, and during the editing process. Each entry should be substantial, meaning no less than 200 words. Worth 30% of your grade.
- Before the project: Post a blog entry no later than midnight on Sunday, March 10th on what your understanding of a wiki is and what your expectations are for the project.
- After the stub is posted: Describe the process your group went through coming up with a topic and writing the stub. Due no later than midnight on Tuesday, March 19th
- Reflective Essay: A reflection of the entire wiki building process. Due no later than midnight on March 28th.
- Peer Reviews: When we return from Spring Break, we will do a peer review of the stubs that have been posted to the wiki. These will be done in Adobe Connect. You must be present in class to get credit for this part of the project and you must participate. Worth 20% of your grade.
- Contributions: Posting the stubs to Wikispaces and the edits to the stubs. I expect the stubs to be introductory, like the practice ones done in class on 2/28. Please DO NOT simply cut and paste the information from the book into your stub. Also, be sure to cite what you borrow accordingly. These are due no later than midnight on Sunday, March 17th. Worth 25% of your grade.
- Edits: I expect you to do edits on the stubs that have been posted. I am not looking for a couple of deletions and a grammar check. I expect these changes to be substantial, meaning that you either do a bunch of small edits or one large one. At the very least, I expect you to add information, delete information, perform some kind of formatting, and add a link. The edits are due no later than midnight on Thursday, March 28th. Worth 25% of your grade.
At the end of the process, I expect each entry to do the following:
- Cover topic in depth with examples
- Be error free
- Contain original material
- Be well organized with headings and subheadings (if needed) and make sense to the reader
- Make excellent use of graphics and effects
- Contain accurate grammar, spelling, and hyperlinking practices
- Cite sources and link to them appropriately
Groups
You will be broken up into 4 groups. Each group will be assigned two chapters from the Redish textbook. Pick a topic or theme from the chapters that you feel could be expanded upon and use it as the basis for writing your own wiki stub. I expect all group members to contribute to the writing of the original stub. I expect group members to notify me if someone is not contributing, because I want to give credit to those who contribute.
The groups are as follows:
Group 1: Chapters 1 and 2
Decker
Wood
Collmus
Harris

Group 2: Chapters 3 and 4
