In-Class Assignments
This portion of your grade is based on the quality of your in-class assignments. Assignments that are not considered satisfactory will have points deducted. Please be aware that in-class assignments cannot be made up, so if one is missed it will impact your grade. Prompts will be given in Adobe Connect as guidelines.
We will go over how to set up and use Twitter the first day of class, but instructions are available if you wish to refer back to them. Use the hashtag #dw307. At the very minimum, I expect you to tweet responses to your readings. Two tweets are required per reading. You are also required to respond to two of your classmates’ tweets. For example, if you have three readings, you will have six tweets for the readings, plus two responses to classmates, totaling eight tweets. I urge you to tweet during class times, and, if you get the hang of it, out of class as well. If you do not wish to use your real name, you may set up a sock puppet account. Just be sure to share the name with me so I know who you are. Tweets for readings will be due by midnight the Tuesday following the class meeting.
Wiki Project
The wiki is a collaborative project in which participants are free to add, edit, and delete information on a variety of topics. The most widely known example of the wiki is wikipedia, but there are many other wikis on the web devoted to specific topics. For this project, the class will works in groups to create a collaborative wiki from scratch. You will be expected to create, edit, and link pages of information on the given topic.
HTML Project
You will create a series of HTML pages that demonstrate your skills in document design your ability to format text and create hyperlinks between pages.
Photo Manipulation
We will be learning the fundamentals of photo editing, and using GIMP, an open software photo editor similar to Photoshop, will create an image based on the skills you have learned.
Blog
You will be required to create and maintain a blog for the duration of the class. We will be using the site Weebly to create them. All writing assignments, meeting minutes, reflections, and projects will be posted to this blog. I expect your blog to demonstrate the principles we learn throughout the semester; that is, I expect the entries to be formatted correctly, the structure of the blog to make sense, and for you to write in the appropriate style.
